How does it work? 

 

When we sing or speak with RHYTHM and MELODY, our brains process this differently than speech yet with a significant overlap with speech processing networks - this creates a therapeutic doorway. Music-based interventions engage intact right-hemispheric neural circuits when there is damage to left hemisphere language areas, and newer evidence shows they can even create new connections in the left hemisphere! Sing for Speech© is designed to support clinicians in incorporating music-based techniques in their work AND enhance home care for individuals with:

Video and audio guide you through evidence-based techniques in complete lessons, informed by 20+ years of clinical music therapy experience, specialized trainings such as Neurologic Music Therapy®, and collaboration and consultation with speech-language pathologists. Access is sold in a bundle so that you can use it in the office and your clients can engage in the exercises at home.

What This Program Gives You — and Your Clients

 

This is more than a music listening or singing app. This is a clinician-guided, Neurologic Music Therapy®–informed platform designed as a supplement to both extend and reinforce therapy in the clinic and at home. We know that dosage and consistency are key to neuroplastic change. This platform was designed to be accessible for home practice of interventions that are otherwise somewhat difficult to replicate at home. The beta version of this program is being used as a homework component in a research study on therapeutic choirs at University of New Mexico. Future research at Purdue University is in preliminary stages to explore this eProgram and Melodic Intonation Therapy.
