What SLPs Say:

"As an outpatient blended adult-pediatric therapist, I found the Sing for Speech eProgram has enormous potential as a therapy resource with “all-ages” imagery, a clear hierarchy of exercises and a navigable interface. I view this as a “tool in the toolkit” for many individuals with expressive language needs: expressive aphasias, minimally speaking school-age children, and potentially appropriate for structured fluency practice."

How does it work?

When we sing or speak with RHYTHM and MELODY, our brains process this differently than speech yet with a significant overlap with speech processing networks - this creates a therapeutic doorway. Music-based interventions engage intact right-hemispheric neural circuits when there is damage to left hemisphere language areas, and newer evidence shows they can even create new connections in the left hemisphere! This new platform can help form new neural pathways to speech, motivate patients to practice, aid in social connection, and improve stress levels and moodClick here to learn more about the research supporting this e-program.

Sing for Speech© is designed to support clinicians in incorporating music-based techniques in their work AND enhance home care for individuals with:

  • Aphasia, apraxia, hypophonia, and dysarthria

  • Stroke or brain injury

  • Parkinson's, dementia and other diseases affecting speech and language

  • Autism and developmental differences

Video and audio guide you through evidence-based techniques in complete lessons, informed by 20+ years of clinical music therapy experience, specialized trainings such as Neurologic Music Therapy®, and collaboration and consultation with speech-language pathologists. Access is sold in a bundle so that you can use it in the office and your clients can engage in the exercises at home.

What This Program Gives You — and Your Clients

This is more than a music listening or singing app. This is a clinician-guided, Neurologic Music Therapy®–informed platform designed as a supplement to both extend and reinforce therapy in the clinic and at home. We know that dosage and consistency are key to neuroplastic change. This platform was designed to be accessible for home practice of interventions that are otherwise somewhat difficult to replicate at home. The beta version of this program is being used as a homework component in a research study on therapeutic choirs at University of New Mexico by Dr. Jessica Richardson.

For your clients at home:

  • Structured, music-based daily lessons curated by a board certified music therapist

  • Customizable lessons

  • Rhythmic Speech Cueing® exercises with clear visuals and videos

  • Step-by-step Melodic Intonation Therapy phrases to practice the same way each time, thus more easily memorized and recalled

  • Motivating vocal, articulation, and breathing exercises

  • Therapeutic singing and Musical Speech Stimulation™ techniques

For you as the clinician:

  • A supplemental program for a wide range of diagnoses: those with limited expressive language, motor speech disorders, and/or voice issues.

  • Melodic Intonation Therapy phrases informed by music therapy, with distinct, musical melodies to fully engage the brain regions that process music, easy to replicate with video/audio guides

  • Sample MIT melodies to personalize for your clients, since creating catchy melodies is not easy!

  • Evidence-based techniques your clients will be motivated to use — because they enjoy them

  • Regular updates of new songs and exercises to keep clients engaged
